Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque Fighting Saints' game Saturday night against the Fargo Force may turn out to be a pivotal moment for Jim Montgomery's team, despite coming not even halfway through the regular season. After going winless over their previous four games, compiling a 0-2-2 record, the Saints entered Scheels Arena to take on the hottest team in the league - the Fargo Force, winners of their last six, and 11-1-2 over their last fourteen. Had the Saints lost the game, they would have failed to earn two points for the fifth game in a row, surrendered a share of first place in the Western Conference to the Force, and faced a long, cold ride back to Iowa. Digging deep, the Saints were able to buck all of the recent trends and come away with a convincing 5-0 victory, earning Jackson Teichroeb his first shutout of the year in the process.

With their rough stretch perhaps behind them, the Fighting Saints return for three games in Iowa this weekend, battling Sioux Falls at home on Friday, travelling to Des Moines on Saturday, and matching up once again with the Buccaneers the following night at the Mystique Community Ice Center. Gates open for the Fighting Saints' home games at 6 PM, with the puck dropping an hour later.

At the same time as on-ice success returned to the Fighting Saints, several players collected off-ice accolades. Three members of the Dubuque Fighting Saints were included on the NHL Central Scouting Bureau's mid-season ranking list for June's NHL Draft. In all, 49 USHL players were named in the rankings.

Joakim Ryan, the Fighting Saints' smooth-skating defenseman and powerplay quarterback, was ranked 128th on the list of skaters, and John Gaudreau, the undersized forward who is tied for the USHL lead in goal scoring with seventeen, was listed at number 209 on that list. Fighting Saints skaters weren't the only players recognized by Central Scouting. Teichroeb was ranked 22nd of the goaltenders in the report, having compiled a 7-3-2 record along with his 2.58 goals against average.

Friday's game against Sioux Falls will feature a hungry Fighting Saints team looking to avenge its 2-1 overtime loss of last Friday to the Stampede, after which coaches and players alike were frustrated with Dubuque's play. After the game, a free postgame autograph session will commence. Fans will have an opportunity to get autographs from each of their favorite Fighting Saints players, so they should bring any memorabilia that they would like to have signed.

After hitting the road on Saturday, the Saints will return to Dubuque for a second straight game against the Des Moines Buccaneers on Sunday - prior to Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Sunday is $2 beer night at the game, courtesy of Anheuser-Busch and 7G Distributing. Fans can buy Budweiser and Bud Light for just two dollars at any of the portable beer stands on the upper concourse or on the lower level of the Mystique Community Ice Center.

Fans interested in tickets can call the Fighting Saints at (563) 583-6880, visit www.dubuquefightingsaints.com, or stop by the Mystique Community Ice Center Box Office between 10 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday. All games will be broadcast on Dubuque's Super Hits 106 and streamed on superhits106.com, with pregame coverage starting a half hour before puck drop.
