Boise Burn News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Boise Burn will welcome childhood cancer survivors to the game on Saturday, Apr. 26. Four-hundred Camp Rainbow Gold members will get a chance to meet the team and cheerleaders, take part in on-field activities, and participate in the live radio and television broadcast.
The American Cancer Society's Camp Rainbow Gold is available to children ages 6 through 17 who have been diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, and serves approximately 75 campers annually. Due to the generosity of Idaho residents and major fundraising events implemented by volunteers, this unique camp is provided without cost to campers and their families.
Camp Rainbow Gold was founded in 1984 by Dr. Dave McClusky and was one of the first children's oncology camps in the United States. Located at Cathedral Pines, north of Ketchum, Idaho in the Sawtooth Mountains, Camp Rainbow Gold offers campers a week-long escape from the rigors of their illness by participating in activities such as fishing, swimming, archery, ice skating, rafting, horseback riding, karate, music, mountain biking and artwork creation. Campfires, themed dances, a talent show and a carnival round out the week, all with the goal of developing a sense of independence, adventure, self-assurance and success for each camper. This year's camp will take place from Sunday, Aug. 3 through Friday, Aug. 8, 2008.
The Boise Burn will look to extend their winning streak to three when they host the Texas Copperheads on Saturday at Qwest Arena. Kick off is at 7 pm. Tickets are available at 331-TIXS (8497) or the Qwest Arena box office. Season tickets are also available by calling (208) 383-0080.
