Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Mahoning Valley Thunder, in conjunction with the arenafootball2 League Offices, are pleased to announce that Offensive/Defensive Lineman Kinny Spotwood (5'11, 237) and Quarterback Bryan Kover (6'4, 230) have been assigned to the team. Both are first-year af2 players.
Spotwood attended the University of Tulsa playing in 51 games over his career. He was a four-year starter on the special teams unit, and a mainstay at defensive end in his senior season of 2006. He finished his collegiate career with 58 tackles and three sacks.
Spotwood earned three letters at Abilene (Tex.) Cooper High School, playing defensive end and running back. As a senior in 2002, he recorded 89 tackles, seven sacks and four blocked punts, garnering first-team all-state and all-district honors. He was named the Texas Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year. Kinny finished his high school career with 180 tackles and 27 sacks.
Kover joins Mahoning Valley after a collegiate career spent at Baldwin Wallace College. As a member of the Yellow Jackets he earned two letters playing multiple positions. As a freshman, Kover was used primarily as a quarterback. Prior to his sophomore campaign he was moved to defensive end, before spending his final two seasons at tight end. He ended his collegiate career with 12 receptions for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Kover played his high school football at traditional Ohio powerhouse Dublin Coffman High School.
THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE HOLD:
"These are two players who can come in and make an immediate impact with our ball club. Spotwood comes from a college program that faced top level competition week in and week out, so he knows what it takes to succeed on a game to game basis. Bryan is a versatile guy with a big arm and he's extremely athletic. He excels at the intermediate throws, which is a staple of the passing game in arena. We anticipate both of these guys contributing to the team sooner rather then later."
The Mahoning Valley Thunder returns home Monday, May 5th on Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre to host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the first Monday Night game in team history! Be a part of all the action in 2008 as the Thunder continues their climb towards the ArenaCup9 Championship. Individual tickets are on sale now starting at just $12. Group Outings and Birthday Parties for individual games also available. For more information call the Thunder Offices at 330.758.4af2 (4232).
