Burlington Sock Puppets News Release
BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The Sock Puppets were the Puppet Masters on Thursday night into Friday morning. The Puppets scored 16 runs on 14 hits, in a game that ended at 12:19 AM. Following a lengthy rain delay, Bristol scored in the top half of the inning on a foul ball that got away from catcher Mason Speaker.
Kannon Handy started for the Puppets, and struck out nine in three-and-a-third innings.
Following that run, the Puppets exploded for five runs in the second inning, capped off by Mason Speaker's line drive RBI triple. Bristol scored one more run in the top of the third off the bat of catcher MJ Lucas. Bristol's Cort Maynard was then nabbed at home plate trying to steal home on a foul ball.
In the bottom of the third, the Sock Puppets struck for another five run inning, fueled by RBIs from Ryan Picollo, Alex Pup, and Alex Haba.
The bottom of the fourth was punctuated in dramatic fashion by Mason Speaker's three-run blast to left center, as the Puppets tacked on four more runs on their tally to lead the game 14-2.
Bristol scored their third run of the night in the top of the seventh, and Burllington retaliated following the stretch with a mammoth two run home run from Ryan Picollo.
Bristol capped off their night with one run in the eighth, and two in the ninth, but that wasn't enough to overcome the hot bats of the Sock Puppets in the early morning hour.
Burlington looks for a series sweep against Bristol on Friday.
The first pitch of the series finale is scheduled for 7PM from Burlington Athletic Stadium.
