Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - Behind a clutch home run from Alex Burg, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, knocked off the San Antonio Missions, 6-5, completing their first four-game sweep in almost five years.

Burg hit his second home run in as many days in the bottom of the sixth to put the RoughRiders (15-4) ahead, 6-4, with what proved to be the deciding blow. Burg also had an RBI single in the second inning that gave the Riders a 1-0 lead, and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Trailing 6-5 in the eighth, the Missions (8-12) built a threat against reliever Jose Valdespina, putting runners on the corners with just one out. But Valdespina struck out Ryan Miller and reliever Adam Parks came on to get the final out of the inning. Parks stayed on and worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his third save of the year.

San Antonio had a pair of early leads Thursday, grabbing a 2-1 lead in the fourth, before losing it right away on a solo home run from Ronald Guzman that landed in the under-development Choctaw Lazy River. The Missions grabbed a 4-2 lead in the fifth, but the Riders answered back again with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, capped by an RBI single from Luis Mendez.

Victor Payano (2-0) made the start for the Riders and picked up the win, lasting six innings, while allowing six hits, four earned runs, three walks, and striking out four.

With the win, the Riders secured their first four-game sweep since May 16-19, 2011 at Midland.

The Riders continue their eight-game homestand Friday night against Corpus Christi (9-10). Frisco won two out of three games in the first meeting with the Hooks last weekend in Corpus Christi. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and right-hander Reed Garrett (0-0, 2.08 ERA) will make his first start of the year for the Riders. Fans can watch the action on MiLB.TV and live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.

Friday is Deuce bobblehead night at Dr Pepper Ballpark, and the first 1,500 fans through the gates will take home a free bobblehead of the Riders loveable mascot. In addition, it's the latest Fireworks Friday, giving fans a chance to come watch a post-game fireworks spectacle from the outfield grass. Tickets for Friday's game, and the remaining games in the homestand are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
