Burgess to Take Over Trainer and Equipment Duties

GREENVILLE, SC – The East Coast Hockey League's Greenville Grrrowl have announced the addition of Mark "Hootie" Burgess as Head Trainer and Equipment Manager beginning with the 2003-04 season. Burgess will replace Chris Young who, after five seasons with the Grrrowl, has accepted a position with the Greenville (SC) Hospital System athletic trainers program.

"Mark will be a great addition to our organization," said Byron K. Rucker, Sr. VP / General Manager of the Grrrowl and ScheerSports, Inc. "Chris set a high bar of success in this position for our team, and I have full confidence that we are getting a very competent and experienced replacement. Hootie has been in professional hockey for many years, and comes with tremendous recommendations." Burgess spent last season in Baton Rouge with the Kingfish, and was in Charlotte with the Checkers organization from 1998-2001 seasons. Burgess also has five seasons of experience with professional Roller Hockey.

"Hootie brings a lot of experience in his field," added John Marks, VP of Hockey Operations and Head Coach of the Grrrowl. "He has a great love for the game of hockey, and he is someone that I feel confident working with on a daily basis. I believe that we will have a strong partnership with the players, and I know that the players and fans will enjoy having him in Greenville."

In the role with the Grrrowl organization, Mark will handle all medical treatment and prevention, as well as oversee equipment inventory and repair. Charlie Dallas will return in a support role for Mark, and an administrative role with Coach Marks with hockey operations.

"It has been five great years with Chris and the Grrrowl," stated John Marks, VP of Hockey Operations and Head Coach of the Grrrowl. "Chris did a lot to lay the groundwork for success at the beginning of the Grrrowl, and I know that our relationship will not change. I know that Chris will succeed with this new professional direction."

The Grrrowl have recently released the 2003-04 schedule, and will begin its sixth home slate on October 24th against the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 PM.
