WUERFEL PARK - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Andrew Brockett. A 22nd round pick in 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by Kansas City, he spent the last two summers in the Royals' system.

"Brockett has the bulldog mentality that we're always looking for in pitchers. His fastball and slider are both above average pitches and he has a chance to rack up a lot of strikeouts in this league" said Beach Bums' Director of Baseball Operations Jason Wuerfel. "He attacks hitters and limits his walks, which is rare from a pitcher who has the ability to strike a lot of guys out."

Coming out of the University of Richmond, Brockett made his professional debut in 2013. He split time with the Royals' rookie-level Arizona League team and Idaho Falls (ID) Chuckers. Used exclusively in relief, he combined to make 18 appearances and posted a 2-1 record, 2.78 ERA and four saves. He struck out 21 batters in 22 innings pitched.

In 2014 he again shuffled between two teams seeing action with the rookie-level Appalachian League's Burlington (NC) Royals and low-A South Atlantic League Lexington Legends. In 15 total relief appearances he went 3-1, 1.69 ERA and two saves. He once again mowed down hitters striking out 25 in 26.2 innings of work.

The North Haven, CT native pitched collegiately for three seasons at the University of Richmond. In his junior, and final, season in 2013 he had 17 outings with a 3-2 record, 3.70 ERA and three saves. A reliable pitcher for the Spiders from the start, Brockett had 26 appearances as a sophomore and 22 as a freshman.

The 22 year old is the proud son of Brian and Cynthia. In his spare time he is an avid movie goer.

The 10th season of Beach Bums baseball begins Friday May 15 at Evansville at 6:35pm with the home opener scheduled for Friday May 22nd vs. Windy City at 7:05pm.

All games will be broadcast live on 98.1 The Bear.

The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015 starting with the home opener and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on May 22 at 7:05 pm. Season ticket packages are now available! Fans are invited to come on out to the ballpark and personally choose their seat or call 231-943-0100 for more information.
