TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Giancarlo Brugnoni used the long ball to help the Traverse City Beach Bums'(17-28) to a 6-1 win over the Southern Illinois Miners(30-14), taking the holiday weekend series, two games to one.

After a scoreless first couple of innings, and with one out in the third, Jeff DeBlieux hit a double to the centerfield wall. With Marco Derkes at the plate, two straight wild pitches brought DeBlieux in to score to make it 1-0 In the fifth, Giancarlo Brugnoni blasted a solo homer of the right-centerfield wall to double the Bums lead.

Derkes led off the sixth inning with a solid single right up the middle. He then moved to second on a ground out. Steven Patterson followed by lacing an shot to center, although he was thrown out at third trying extend the double to a triple, Derkes scored. Will Kengor was next and hit a single to right, then Elijah Trail walked. Up to the plate came Brugnoni and he smashed a bomb down the left field line. The question was foul or home run, and it was fair by a healthy margin, clearing the bases on the three run blast, and the Bums led 6-0. Southern Illinois got on the board in the seventh with an RBI sacrifice fly by Nolan Earley, but the Miners would not threaten again.

Kramer Champlin was masterful for the win to improve to 3-4. He went all nine innings for the complete game, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out eight. Dan Ludwig drops to 5-1 win tonight's loss, allowing all six runs on eight hits and a walk.

Next up for the Beach Bums, after a day off on Monday, is a three game trip to Sachaumburg to take on the Boomers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30pm eastern time and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 7:10pm, on 101.9- The Bay.

Don't Forget- Coming up on Friday, July 7th, join us for a night dedicated to the banning of distracted driving. Red Thumbs will be given away to encourage fans not to text and drive. Also, be sure to stay after the game for another FANtastic Fireworks show. The gates will open at 5pm with the game against the Windy City Thunderbolts starting at 7:05pm.

The Beach Bums business offices are open from 9am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Sponsorships, season tickets, group packages, patio tables, and suite, are all currently available for the 2016 season. The Box Office & Gift Ship are now open with non-gameday hours of 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Wuerfel Park is closed on non-gameday Sundays.
