TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(29-41) got great pitching but never got the offense rolling as they fell to the Normal Cornbelters(38-32), 3-1
After a scoreless first inning, Normal's Dillon Haupt led off by drawing a walk, then Dylan Kelly singled to left. After a fly out, Craig Lepre walked to load the bases. Elvin Rodrigue then laced a two-run single to center, scoring Haupt and Kelly, giving Normal a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, Steven Patterson hit an infield single. Elijah Trail then walked and Christian Santisteban hit a swinging bunt base hit to load the bases. Although Kendall Patrick followed by grounding into a double play, Patterson scored from third, cutting the deficit in half. It took until the ninth, but Normal got on the board again with an RBI single by Justin Fletcher, scoring Haupt.
Tucker Simpson had a high-quality start, going seven innings, allowing just two runs, on four hits, three walks, and he struck out two. At one point, he retired eleven in a row but suffered the loss to fall to 2-2. Horacio Acosta gets the win for Normal going 6 1/3 innings, allowing the lone Bums run while spreading out six hits. He improves to 7-2. Brennan Smith nabbed his third save, walking one and striking out two, in the ninth.
Tomorrow evening, the Beach Bums and Normal Cornbelters with play the finale of this three game series. Mike Elwood will go for Normal while Kramer Champlin will get the start for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 4:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.

Come dressed as your favorite princess and receive 1/2 off ticket prices. The first 250 fans dressed in costume will also receive a free tiara. Kids will have the opportunity to run the bases after the game (ages 5-12 no exceptions) and have the chance to meet your very own Beach Bums and receive a free team poster and player autographs.
The Beach Bums Box Office & Gift Shop are now open with non-gameday hours of 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Wuerfel Park is closed on non-gameday Sundays.
