Frederick Keys News Release
It took a while to crack a scoreless tie but Keys LF Steve Bumbry did it, with a two-out two-run home run to right field to give the Keys a 2-0 fifth inning lead. Bumbry's fifth home of the year would galvanize the Keys bats in a 5-3 win in Salem on Sunday afternoon. Leading 2-0, SS Jonathan Schoop singled to center. Next up was CF Miguel Abreu who singled Schoop to third base. But Abreu in the following at-bat got caught off first base as Salem threw to Salem SS Derrik Gibson to apply the tag. Gibson dropped the ball and Schoop raced for the plate with the Keys third run.
It didn't take much offense for Frederick today with starter Nick Haughian on the hill. Coming off his career-best 12-strikeout performance, Haughian (7-4) kept the Red Sox at bay until the seventh inning. He worked seven innings allowing only two runs for his fourth win in five starts.
The win is a fourth in a row for Frederick moving to 4-1 on their current eight-game road trip. Salem has dropped five in a row for the second time in the second half. The Keys clinched a tie of the season series with Salem moving to 10-3 against the Red Sox this season. The Keys have won eight in a row over Salem.
The series continued from Lewis-Gale Field Monday, July 18th at 7:05 p.m. as Bobby Bundy will get the starting nod for Frederick. Coverage will begin 20 minutes earlier on 1450-AM The Source.
Frederick returns home for a week-long homestand with a Tote Bag giveaway to the first 1,000 fans on Friday, July 22nd. It is Going Green Night presented by the Frederick Department of Solid Waste Management.
