Oshawa Generals News Release

Belleville,Ontario - An exciting back-and-forth affair between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference came down to a riveting third period before a 5-2 score could be settled upon, as the Oshawa Generals and Belleville Bulls met for the eighth time this season.

The crowd of over 3,000 at the Yardmen Arena was treated to a physical battle that set the table for an exciting potential postseason matchup, with the conclusion making the foggy playoff picture clearer. Boone Jenner and Scott Laughton were the goal scorers, pushing their season totals to 45 and 23 respectively.

A quick start by the Generals had them up by one quickly, as Boone Jenner pounced on a loose rebound in the slot, beating Malcolm Subban top shelf and extending his season total to 45 goals on the season. Belleville recovered during the midway point of the period, as Daniil Zharkov let a quick wrist-shot go off the faceoff, beating Altshuller five-hole.

The Generals regained the lead early in the second period, on a spectacular short-handed effort by Scott Laughton. The Oshawa center blew by the Bull's defenders, before sliding the puck between Subban's legs with a quick stutter-step move that froze the Belleville net minder, making the score 2-1. The Bull's captain Brendan Gaunce tied the game at 2, as he pounced on a rebound of his own.

Alan Quine gave Belleville their first lead of the game at the 3:48 mark of the third period, as Zharkov froze the Oshawa net minder with a threat to shoot before dishing to Quine for the one-timer. The Bulls offence didn't look back, as Gaunce scored his second and third goals of the game to complete the hat-trick.

The Generals outshot the Bulls 41-31.

Belleville swept the three stars selections, with the honours going to Gaunce, Subban, and Zharkov. The Generals continue on the road, as they make a stop in Ottawa before returning home to the General Motors Centre on March 17th as they host the Sudbury Wolves. Puck drop is at 6:05pm.
