Durham Bulls News Release
Durham NC - Durham followed up Sunday evening's no-hitter with another strong pitching performance as they shut out Scranton Wilkes-Barre 4-0 on Monday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Durham has won four of five since the All-Star break to pull within six-and-a-half games of the Wild Card behind Louisville and Indianapolis.
Four Bulls pitchers combined to scatter just five singles while striking out 12 Red Barons and walking three. J.P. Howell (2-2) picked up the win for the Bulls, going five innings allowing four hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Jason Childers held the score at 3-0 during his two innings while striking out two, and Jeff Ridgway pitched a scoreless eighth. Seth McClung pitched the ninth striking out three while allowing one hit. Jeremy Cummings (4-6) took the loss for the Red Barons, allowing three runs over four and two-thirds innings on five hits and two walks, while striking out six.
Darnell McDonald hit a solo blast in the second inning over the Blue Monster in left field to give the Bulls the lead, and extend his hitting streak to 22 games, just one shy of the Bulls' Triple-A record of 23, which was set by Steve Cox in 1999. Newcomers Ben Zobrist and Wes Bankston both went 2-4 on the night, and Elijah Dukes went 2-3 with a double and a RBI.
Durham looks to continue their winning ways against Scranton Wilkes-Barre tomorrow night, as LHP Chris Seddon (6-4) pitches against LHP Brian Mazzone (6-1) at 7:00 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at the Durham Bulls Box office, by phone at (919) 956-BULL or online at www.durhambulls.com.
