Bulls Hold off IceRays Late Push for Fourth Straight Win

Amarillo Bulls News Release

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Bulls held off a late comeback effort by the Corpus Christi IceRays to win their fourth straight game in a 5-3 victory on Friday night.

After a Thursday night performance that Head Coach Rocky Russo tabbed as not being the team's best this season, the Bulls found themselves with the early lead, as Ty Black scored his first of the season just 1:42 into the contest. Less than four minutes later, Black would pick up an assist on Matt Allen's ninth goal of the season, which came on the powerplay. The early lead would hold for Amarillo, and the Bulls would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Bulls came out of the dressing room and quickly grew their lead when Ryan Tucker evaded a hit on the wall and slid the puck to Kyrre Hellerud, who scored his first North American Hockey League goal to extend the Amarillo lead to 3-0. After the Bulls continued to find a number of quality chances, Devan Tongue lifted a high feed toward the goal crease, and Allen would deflect the puck out of the air for his second goal of the game and 10th of the season.

With the 4-0 lead intact, the Bulls looked as though they were going to cruise to the victory in the third period. The IceRays had a different game plan as Evan Carroll snapped a quick feed into the net, early in the frame, to bring the score to 4-1. After a major penaltywas assessed to the Bulls, Corpus Christi would capitalize twice on the man-advantage as Cameron Knowlton scored a pair of goals to bring the IceRays to within a single tally. With the Corpus Christi net vacated, Tucker iced the game with an empty net goal with 20 seconds to go.

Amarillo's win lifts the team to sole possession of the third spot in the South Division with a 12-4-1-1 record.

The Bulls remain on the road as they travel to Albuquerque to take on the New Mexico Ice Wolves in the first ever meetings between the two organizations on Friday and Saturday. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 8:30PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
