CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Corpus Christi IceRays fell 2-1 to the Amarillo Bulls via shootout Thursday at American Bank Center. Ty Black scored the lone goal of the shootout for Amarillo (11-4-1-1, 24 pts.). Cal Sandquist made 20 saves for Corpus Christi (9-7-2-3, 23 pts.).
With the win, the Bulls grabbed sole possession of fourth place in the South Division standings.
Shane Bull scored on the IceRays' only shot on goal in the first period, firing a blocker-side shot past Amarillo goaltender Charlie Glockner.
The Bulls tied the game in the second period when Jordan Venegoni received a feed from Matt Allen and blasted a quick shot into the net.
Neither team scored in the third period as the IceRays went into overtime for a ninth time this season. In the shootout, Black scored in the first round for Amarillo, while Sandquist denied Lauri Sertti and Niclas Puikkonen. Glockner stopped shots from Evan Burkle, Artur Turansky and Cameron Knowlton.
The IceRays went 0-for-3 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill, with all but the first power play being abbreviated due to overlapping penalties.
