Belleville Bulls News Release

BELLEVILLE, ON - A visit by the Mississauga Steelheads was just what the Belleville Bulls needed to get their shot count back where they wanted it.

Bulls have been routinely outshot this season but turned the tables on the Steelheads Wednesday night at Yardmen Arena, firing 57 pucks at Mississauga netminder Spencer Martin on the way to a convincing 5-1 victory. Bulls allowed 22 shots on rookie goalie Connor Hicks.

After a scoreless first frame, Bulls got goals from Niki Petti, Stephen Harper, Michael Cramarossa, Jordan Subban and Matt Luff. Mississauga's solo marker came from defenceman Stefan LeBlanc.

Bulls improve to 11-4-1; Steelheads fall below .500, to 6-7-1.

Bulls glanced a shot off the crossbar in Period 1 and Hicks made a superb sliding pad save to highlight a scoreless opening 20 minutes.

Bulls roared out of the gate in the second stanza, firing a barrage of shots at Martin which paid off at 5:17 when Petti took a pass from the right corner by Brett Gustavsen and went top shelf on the glove side for a 1-0 Belleville lead.

Bulls went up 2-0 less than seven minutes later when Remi Elie - also from the right corner - found Harper alone in front of Martin for another top-shelf conversion.

In the final frame, Cramarossa, on a Petti rebound, and Subban, increasing his current point streak to nine games on a feed from Elie, made it 4-0 Bulls before LeBlanc beat Hicks to end his shutout bid. Luff scored on a late break, assisted by David Tomasek and Harper at 19:21, to put the finishing touches on the Belleville triumph.

All the scoring was done while the teams played 5-on-5. Bulls fired blanks on five power plays while Mississauga went 0-for-2 with the extra man.

Attendance was announced as 2,210. Three stars were: 1. Petti; 2. Hicks; 3. Martin.
