Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC-Jon Knott's three-run blast in the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs picked off the Durham Bulls, 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Ben Hendrickson went seven innings for the Bulls, giving up an unearned run in the first, allowing four hits and two walks and striking out five. Lehigh Valley's Les Warlond nearly matched Hendrickson's effort, allowing a first-inning run on five hits and four walks while striking out seven.
In the eighth, the two teams traded home runs: Knott followed an intentional walk of Andy Tracy with a three-run home run off Nick DeBarr (6-1, 3.02), and Elliot Johnson deposited a Steve Green offering into the right-field seats in the bottom of the frame, but it was only good for two runs. Then, Matt Childers came on to pitch two perfect innings, striking out five Bulls to nail down his 11th save of the year.
The Bulls will attempt to even their four-game series with the IronPigs on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Chris Mason (3-7, 5.47) is the scheduled starter for Durham, and he will oppose Gary Knotts (2-2, 3.88).
