TOPEKA, KS - Hot, Hot, Hot...

That's the best way to describe the Amarillo Bulls heading into the Christmas Break. The Bulls extended their unbeaten string to 15 games, consecutive wins to seven and first place lead to 12 points as they dumped the Topeka Pilots 5-1 on Saturday night at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena.

The second period proved to be difference for the Bulls as they connected four times, three of them coming after the Pilots had trimmed the lead to 2-1.

Scoring for Amarillo were Ryan Lautenbach, Logan Jenuwine, Gabriel Seger, Jason Brancheau and Cooper Fensterstock. Justin Evenson posted the win in goal turning aside 18 of 19 shots he faced.

Jason Brancheau started the offense for the Bulls as he pushed a shot past goaltender McLean Dorr. Cooper Fensterstock picked up an assist on the play. The Bulls outshot Topeka 14-7 in the first period.

It was a five goal explosion in the second period with the Bulls being able to tally four of them. Cooper Fensterstock got things started with an unassisted marker just 39 seconds into the period. The Pilots would answer back with their first goal in over four periods as Cole Thiessen scored from Michael Muschitiello and Valdemar Ahlberg.

After that, the Bulls went to work and netted the next three with two of them coming in a 2:46 span. Ryan Lautenbach and Gabriel Seger scored back-to-back unassisted goals to increase the lead to 4-1. Just before the end of the stanza, Logan Jenuwine found the back of the net with a shot from Alex Peterson and Gabriel Seger. The Bulls outshot the Pilots 19-8 in the period.

The final 20 minutes featured defensive hockey by the Bulls limiting the opposition to just four shots on goal.

In the end the Bulls outshot Topeka 42-19 and had four more power plays than their opponents.
