Amarillo Bulls News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Amarillo Bulls fired five third period goals, including four in a row en route to a 6-3 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday night at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
It was the Bulls 6th win of the season and they remained in first place in the South Division.
The game was tight checking for the first 40 minutes as each team scored just once. The flood gates opened in the third period with the club's combining for seven goals, including three via special teams.
Karl Beckman gave the Bulls a one goal lead early in the third stanza from Michael Erickson, but that was short-lived as Corpus Christi scored twice in 30 seconds to take a 3-2 advantage. After that it was all Amarillo, with four straight tallies. Matt Johnson scored on a five-on-three power play from Erickson and Beckman. TJ Sarcona gave the Bulls the lead for good from John Rey and Clint Carlisle at 10:38. The prettiest goal of the night was Tyler Dereky's. He tipped home a pass from Jude Warner. Ryan Tayler set up the play with good work along the boards.
Brooks Behling scored into an empty net from Omar Mullan to round out the scoring. Mike Taffe was solid in net to post the victory. He turned aside 18 of 21 shots he faced.
The Bulls dominated the shot production in the opening 20 minutes but couldn't put one past goaltender Kale Robertson. Corpus Christi jumped on the board first when they tallied via the power play.
In the second period, Matt Johnson made his return to the line-up a good one by scoring from Joe Kozlak and Michael Erickson at 2:40.
The Bulls outshot Corpus Christi 41-21, including 21-8 in the third period. Amarillo has had over 200 shots in their last four games. Each team had six power plays in the contest with the Bulls scoring twice.
The Amarillo Bulls and the Corpus Christi IceRays will face one another tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7 pm at American Bank Center. Fans can tune into the game live on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com, beginning with pre-game show coverage at 6:45 pm. Denis J. Puska has the play-by-play action at 7 pm.
