Topeka Pilots News Release

Topeka only has two of their first 20 games this season on home ice, so Friday's home opener was a special opportunity for the 'Runners to give their fans something to cheer for. With a 6-2 win over division rival Wichita Falls, they accomplished that and more.

With fans still in line for $2 beers and $2 brats, Topeka scored first just :22 seconds into the game as Jake Lynes fed a centering pass toDan Dupell who buried it for a 1-0 lead. The WIldcats struggled to manage even a shot on goal until late in the period, which ended 1-0 on the scoreboard and 10-3 in shots on goal for Topeka.

WIchita Falls, despite being outshot, outhit, and outhustled managed to tie the game at 1-1 as Renato Engler buried a shot from the left wing at 1:57 of the second. The game stayed tied only another :22 seconds before Ben Bahe scored at 2:19, assisted by Andrew O'Leary and Chris Bond. Kyle Sharkey buried his fifth of the season at 6:09 assisted by Robbie Davis and Cory Ramsey for a two goal cushion. Then for good measure, newcomer Sean Gaffney forced a neutral zone turnover on the penalty kill then dished a pretty pass to Jake Lynes who rifled home the shorthanded tally, Topeka's first of the year for a 4-1 lead. The 'Runners outshot the 'Cats 12-4 in the second.

In the third, Robbie Davis redirected a Trace Strahle shot that hit the goalie and bounced over and in for a 5-1 lead at 3:41, then Gage Hough added an exclamation point, finishing off a gorgeous pass play with Davis and Sharkey at 14:50 for a 6-1 lead. Wildcat forward Brennan Parker added a late unassisted goal with :22 seconds remaining.

Topeka (5-3-1) and Wichita Falls (2-6-1) close out the short RoadRunner homestand on Saturday at 7:05 pm. The game will be broadcast on countrylegends1069.com and also available on pay-per-view at FASTHockey.com.
