SAN BERNARDINO, CA. - Despite great work from the bullpen, the Modesto Nuts fell 3-1 against the Inland Empire 66ers on Monday night at San Manuel Stadium.

Luis Liberato gave the Nuts (4-1) their only lead in the second inning. He doubled against 66ers (2-3) starter Travis Herrin (W, 1-0). After moving to third on a groundout, Liberato scored on a wild pitch.

That was all the Nuts would get as Herrin worked five innings with two strikeouts and one walk.

The 66ers took the lead back in the third inning against Nuts starter Ray Kerr (L, 0-1). After working a pair of scoreless innings, Kerr walked the leadoff man in the third inning. Torres followed with a single to put two on. David MacKinnon tied the game with an RBI single that knocked Kerr out of the game after two-plus innings.

Reggie McClain was the first Nuts arm out of the bullpen. He threw a wild pitch that allowed Torres to score from third and put MacKinnon at third base. Hunter brought in the third and final run of the night on an RBI groundout.

McClain, Boches, and Wilcox worked six combined innings out of the bullpen and no one was charged with a run pushing the bullpen's scoreless streak to 14 innings.

Oliver Ortega (S, 1/1) worked the final four innings out of the 66ers bullpen and allowed just two singles.

The Nuts continue a three-game series at Inland Empire on Tuesday night. First pitch against the 66ers is at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
