Quakes Take Fourth Straight

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Visalia, CA - The Quakes stayed hot on Monday night, as they won their fourth straight road game, holding on for a 4-1 victory over the Visalia Rawhide at Recreation Park.

Jeren Kendall fell a long-ball short of the cycle and Donovan Casey continued his hot streak, with two more hits to help the Quakes take the opening game of the three-game series.

Quakes' starter Michael Grove made his professional debut on Monday and after walking the first hitter he faced, went on to retire eight of the next nine hitters he faced, for three total scoreless innings of work. Grove allowed one hit, while striking out four, throwing 46 pitches.

The Rancho offense, which put up a season-best ten hits on the night, finally got going in the fourth inning, as Casey singled and moved to third on a Brayan Morales single. Casey then scored on an errant pickoff throw by Visalia starter Cole Stapler (0-1), making it 1-0.

In the sixth, Carlos Rincon walked to start the inning, then came home on a Casey triple. Devin Mann followed with a sac fly, giving the Quakes a three-run advantage at 3-0.

That lead held until Visalia broke through in the last of the eighth. Lefty Devin Hemmerich allowed a run, when with one out and runners at the corners, Visalia's Yoel Yaqui legged out a would-be double-play ball, scoring Jose Caballero to make it 3-1.

The Quakes got an important insurance run in the ninth, when Kendall walked and later scored on an RBI double by Connor Wong, giving Rancho a 4-1 lead.

Jordan Sheffield worked around a two-out walk, striking out the side to secure his first save of the year.

Reliever Victor Gonzalez (1-0) notched his first win of the year, as he worked 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief, striking out five over his second straight scoreless appearance.

The win for Rancho (4-1) keeps them in a tie with Lake Elsinore (4-1) at the top of the South Division. On Tuesday night at 6:00pm, the Quakes will send lefty Leo Crawford (0-1) to the mound against Visalia's Jeff Bain (0-1).

After the three-game set in Visalia, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for the home opener on Thursday, April 11th, as they host the Lancaster JetHawks for a four-game home stand. Opening Night will feature Post-Game Fireworks and Magnet Schedules given away thanks to Allstar Kia in San Bernardino. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field for the Home Opener...Go Quakes!
