JUPITER, FL – The Cardinals bullpen allowed seven runs in four innings and Jamar Hill finished 4 for 5 with a home run as the Mets beat the Cardinals 9-3 on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.

Cardinals starter Josh Axelson made his second start for Palm Beach and allowed two runs on three hits in five innings. Chris Russ came on in the sixth and gave up three runs and five hits. For Russ (0-1), tonight marked the first runs he had allowed in four innings of work this season.

Scott Schweitzer pitched the seventh and was out again for the eighth, but left the game after a ball hit back through the middle appeared to hit his leg. Justin Garza, making his first appearance since April 8 because of an injury, struggled in the ninth. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks in just 1/3 innings pitched.

Offensively for the Cardinals, Terry Evans and John Santor each finished 2 for 4 with a home run. Evans' blast came in the second inning, his sixth of the year. Santor's homer was his third, and came in the eighth.

Mets starter Vincent Cordova (3-5) earned the win for St. Lucie.

Tuesday's game, originally slated for 6:35, started at 7:27 after a 52-minute rain delay.

The Cardinals open their last home series before the All-Star break on Wednesday against the Vero Beach Dodgers at 7:05.
