Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL (June 7, 2005) – The final game of the homestand ended as it began, with a rain soaked field. After a two hour and seven minute rain delay the Fort Myers Miracle defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays 4-2 on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle got on the board right away against All-Star Kurt Isenberg. Denard Span led off with an infield single. Three batters later he scored on an RBI single from Brock Peterson.

The Miracle tacked on a run in the second on a lead off double from Kyle Phillips and he came around to score on an RBI single from Trent Oeltjen. They added two more runs in the fourth when Peterson singled, Scott Whitrock doubled and Phillips drove them both home with a single. Phillips finished the night 2-3 with double, two RBI and a run scored.

Miracle starter Scott Tyler, who hadn't pitched in 10 days because of all the rain, was spectacular. He went six innings allowing just two hits while walking two and striking out a season high eight. Schris Schutt hurled two shutout innings walking one and striking out four. Jay Sawatski gave up the only runs, a two run homer to Chip Cannon in the ninth.

The Miracle head out on the road to Legends Field for a three game series against the Tampa Yankees beginning Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The Miracle send RHP Adam Harben (4-4, 3.31) to the hill against Yankee RHP Brett Smith (4-2, 5.03).
