Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks announced today that they have come to terms with LHP Brian Ford on a Northeast League contract. To make room for Ford on the roster, Bangor placed RHP Brandon Bowe on the disabled list.
Ford began the season pitching with the Kansas City (KS) T-Bones of the Northern League, where he went 2-1 with a 5.26 ERA and one save. In 25.2 innings pitched, the former Phillies selection fanned 20 while walking just two.
The 30 year-old Ford pitched two seasons in the Philadelphia organization after they selected him in the 22nd round of the 1995 draft. After his release, he joined the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors of the Northeast League for the 1997 season before taking a hiatus from the sport. In 2002, Ford returned to baseball as a member of the Duluth-Superior (MN) Dukes of the Northern League and compiled a 2-5 record and a 3.06 ERA out of the Dukes bullpen.
"Brian had a good year last year, and we're going to bring him in to give him an opportunity to see what he can do. He has a good breaking ball and can throw strikes while keeping the ball down, and I think he will do especially well against lefties," stated Lumberjacks Manager Kash Beauchamp.
Bowe is 2-4 with a 3.33 ERA in 19 games, 6 of those starts. He suffered a knee injury when he was struck by a line drive off the bat of a Brockton Rox player on August 4th. Bowe is not expected to miss much time.
The Lumberjacks hit the road for the next week, but are back at Mahaney Diamond on Monday, August 18 to begin a three game series with division rival Quebec. First pitch Monday is at 7:15; gates open at 6. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Lumberjacks at (207) 947-1900 or by stopping in the Lumberjacks Pro Shop in the Bangor Mall.
