August 13, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors gave up runs to the Brockton Rox in each of the first five innings and ended up losing to Brockton 10-5 Wednesday night in Brockton.

Brockton got a run in the first on a solo home run from Mike Davis, his seventh, off Ambassadors starter Mike Riley. Riley has now given up 14 home runs this season, which leads the league. The Rox would add an unearned run in the second inning.

The Ambassadors rallied in the top of the third. With two outs, Ender Gonzalez singled, followed by a Vic Davilla single and a walk to Marlon Roche. With the bases loaded, Brian Macchi then singled to drive in two and tie the game.

But Brockton would add a run in the third inning, with a Craig Lewis single driving in Saul Bustos. The Ambassadors again responded right away. Jorge Diaz began the fourth with a walk and scored on a two out single from Cedrick Harris. After Gonzalez reached on an error and Davilla walked, Rox starter Joey Baker left the game and Fontella Jones came in. Jones threw a wild pitch, allowing Harris to score and giving the Ambassadors a 4-3 lead. Jones recovered to strike out Roche to end the inning.

The lead would not last long. With two outs in the fourth, Bobby Brown and Nestor Smith singled, followed by a Davis RBI double and a single from Bustos to drive in two and make it 6-4 Rox.

Riley got out of the inning, but his outing was done. John Boker came in to pitch the fifth and the Rox exploded for four more runs, including a monster two run home run from Nestor Smith to right field, his seventh, to make it 10-4.

The Ambassadors would add a run in the eighth, but ended up with the 10-5 loss. Jones gets the win, he is now 1-2, while Riley takes the loss. His record is now 1-5. The win pushes the Rox record to 17-13 while the Ambassadors fall to 12-19. The Rox won the last two games of the series to take it two games to one from the Ambassadors, who have now lost two in a row after winning three in a row. The Ambassadors are off tomorrow, and have a two game set with New Jersey starting on Friday. The game on Friday is the Hall of Fame game for the Ambassadors, with Ed Ott and Joe Calfapietra being inducted into the Ambassador Hall of Fame. It is also a T-Shirt giveaway night, sponsored by Wachovia Securities.
