Ryan Minor Returns to the Newark Bears

NEWARK, NJ, August 13-The Newark Bears today signed third baseman Ryan Minor and released outfielder Curtis Goodwin. Minor started at third base for the Bears in Newark's 14-4 victory this afternoon over the Pennsylvania Road Warriors and went 2-2 with a double, a walk, a sacrifice fly and three runs-batted-in.

Minor, who has Major League experience with the Baltimore Orioles and Montreal Expos, played in 59 games with the Bears last season. He batted .304 with 8 home runs, 12 doubles and 29 RBI for the Bears in 2002.

Originally a 33rd round selection of the Orioles in the 1996 draft out of the University of Oklahoma, Minor reached the big league level in 1998 and played parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues. At triple-A Rochester in 1999 Minor batted .256 with a career-high 21 home runs, 24 doubles and 67 runs-batted-in. The next year at Rochester he batted a career-best .295 with 14 home runs and 48 RBI.

Goodwin, a former big league centerfielder, was batting only .167 with the Bears since being signed in July.
