Green Bay Rockers News Release
FrogVille, WI - June 2nd, 2011 - A pair of RBI doubles in the second inning from Robert Williams and Dan Gerow sparked a four-run second inning which is all the Bullfrogs needed on Thursday night in their 4-2 victory over the La Crosse Loggers at Joannes Stadium.
First basemen Andy Hunter led the second inning off with a single and then stole second base. Nick Stien followed that up with a single and a stolen base of his own to put a pair of Bullfrogs in scoring position for catcher Robert Williams. The California native put the Bullfrogs on the board first with a two-RBI double. After a strike out Dan Gerow, drove in Williams with another double to make it a three run lead. The Bullfrogs' starter Cameron Dullnig, batting for himself in the lead-off spot, tacked on the fourth run of the inning with a single to make it 4-0.
Cameron Dullnig had pitched in just four games during the year at Western Carolina with a career-high outing of 5.1 innings. On Thursday Dullnig went four shutout inning while striking out seven Loggers. The right hander allowed at least one runner in scoring position in every inning, but used his looping curve ball to avoid any damage. The Loggers had two runners on in both the third and fourth innings, but Dullnig struck out two hitters in each of those innings to keep the momentum in the Green Bay dugout.
The game settled in after the fourth inning similar to Wednesday's home opener. Bobby Juan took over the mound in the third inning in relief of starter Jordan Guth who took the loss for La Crosse. The right-handed Juan retired sixteen Bullfrogs in a row until he hit Cameron Dullnig with one out in the 8th inning.
Meanwhile, Andy Hunter moved from first base to the mound in the fifth inning to relieve Dullnig, and retired the first seven hitters he faced. In the seventh inning, the Loggers got on the board for the first time in the 2011 season by capitalizing on a one out walk to Ethan Gross. Trentt Copeland hit a 3-2 pitch into leftfield to score Gross. Copeland, who went 3-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored, came across the plate thanks to a sacrifice fly by Corey LaVier.
In the ninth, John Colella picked up his second save in as many days. He gave up just one single in his shutout inning to give Green Bay a 4-2 victory. The final game of the three game series is Friday night at 6:35 pm. The Bullfrogs will send Josh Martin to the mound while the Loggers have not announced a starter.
The first 500 fans in the ballpark on Friday will receive a 2011 magnet schedule courtesy of Hardee's. After the game there will be a fireworks show presented by 101 WIXX. Individual, group, season tickets and 7 game all you can eat plans are available by calling 920-497-7225 or by logging on to www.greenbaybullfrogs.com for more information.
