Bullfrogs Relinquish Early Lead in 12-5 Loss to La Crosse
July 25, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
La Crosse, WI- After constructing an early 3-0 lead after three frames, the Bullfrogs (34-23/12-10) dropped their first game of two against the La Crosse Loggers (34-24/15-9) at the Lumberyard, 12-5.
Logan Taylor (Louisville) singled to lead the game off in the first against starter Brandon Lawson (RHP/South Florida). The next batter, Robb Paller (Columbia) crushed a two-run home run to deep right field. It was his second this summer. Up 2-0, the Bullfrogs scored another run in the first after an RBI double from the red-hot Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State).
Bullfrogs' starter Alex Martinez (RHP/De Anza) was seamless through three innings against the second best hitting team in the Northwoods League until he encountered trouble in the fourth. He allowed five earned runs despite the fact that the Loggers just put through two hits in the inning.
Martinez walked Ryan Kirby (San Diego) with the bases loaded for the first run, followed by a hit batter with the bases still loaded, and then the final dagger was a bases clearing triple from Luis Trevino (Navarro C.C.) to make it 5-3 La Crosse after four innings. Trevino had three hits on the night.
That was an advantage the home team kept until the very end. In the sixth, the Loggers kept the pressure on with three runs including another hit batter with the bases loaded and a two run error with two outs off the bat of Brock Lundquist (Long Beach State).
Down now 8-3, Green Bay retorted with a solo home run from Paul Jacobson. Jacobson had three hits in the game, and now has six hits over his last pair of games.
Green Bay would score again in the eighth inning thanks to an RBI single from all-star Ryan Donovan (Lynn). Donovan was 2-for-4 at the plate also with a run scored.
The Bullfrogs lose the first game of the series as Alex Martinez (2-3) suffered the loss in 3 2/3IP/5ER and Brandon Lawson (4-1) picked up the win going 6IP/3ER, his second against the Bullfrogs. Green Bay will battle the Loggers again tomorrow night at 5:05PM with Ryan Radue (RHP/UConn) on the mound.
