Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs were defeated by the Wisconsin Woodchucks 7-4 on June 12 at Joannes Stadium.
Bullfrogs' reliever Luke VanLanen picked up the loss, while Connor Kelly earned the win for the Woodchucks.
Wisconsin loaded the bases in the top of the first inning, but Bullfrogs' starter Alex Martinez struck out Owen Taylor to end the threat.
The Bullfrogs scored a run in the opening inning with a RBI single from Paul Jacobson to score Matthew De La Rosa and gave Green Bay a 1-0 lead.
Wisconsin took advantage of a pair of Bullfrogs' errors in the next inning and scored three runs, but the Bullfrogs came right back with one in the third. Ty Blankmeyer reached on a walk to open the inning, and after stealing second and third, he scored on a RBI groundout from Jacobson.
Green Bay regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out rally. Following a strikeout and groundout, the Bullfrogs picked up three consecutive hits including a RBI double for Jack Strunc. The next batter Matthew De La Rosa singled to score Strunc as the Bullfrogs took a 4-3 advantage.
The Bullfrogs were held scoreless the rest of the game, and the Woodchucks tied it after Max Ponzurick doubled and scored on a pair of wild pitches in Martinez's final inning of work.
Martinez allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out six batters.
The game remained tied until the seventh inning when the Woodchucks plated three runs including a pair of run-scoring hits by Ponzurick and Taylor.
Matt McCarthy pitched well in his season debut in relief with a perfect 2 1/3 innings including a pair of strikeouts in relief.
The Bullfrogs will be in action tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. against the Madison Mallards at Joannes Stadium for Jockey Being Family Superhero Night. Green Bay will be wearing Superhero-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. There will also be Post Game Fireworks presented by Pepsi.
