Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis - It was another close ballgame for the Bullfrogs as they fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks 5-3. After falling behind by three early, the Bullfrogs mounted a comeback and tied the game a three in the seventh. But two runs in the bottom of the eighth for the Chinooks were enough to finish of the Bullfrogs. The loss snaps a four game winning streak and moves their second half record to 16-13 and overall record of 31-34.
The Chinooks Matt Reardon (Florida Gulf Coast) got the scoring starting for the Chinooks as he sent a solo shot on the third pitch from Harrisen Egly (Columbia) to give his team an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. They would extend their lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple by Kevin Riley (Chaffey CC) to score Joe Duncan (Eastern Illinois). Tim Dalporto (Kent State) followed with sacrifice fly to bring home Riley, 3-0 Chinooks after three.
In the top of the fifth, the Bullfrogs would finally get to starting pitcher Nick Lackney (Minnesota). After being held scoreless for the first four innings, Quincy Nieporte (Florida State) hit a single up the middles to score Austin Clemons (Louisville), who reached on an error. Bullfrogs had runners at first and second with nobody out but a line drive off the bat of Jonah Davis (UC-Berkeley) was caught by Chinooks first baseman Kurtis Brown (Richmond) and he doubled up Nieporte at first for two quick outs. The threat would end on a Matt Hoeg (Iowa Western CC) flyout to the end the inning.
The Bullfrogs cut the deficit to one in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, the Bullfrogs would work two straight walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases against reliever Liam Jenkins (Arizona State). Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne) worked a walk with the bases loaded to score Hollander from third. Nieporte would fly out to end the inning.
Finishing the comeback, the Bullfrogs would tie the ballgame in the top of the seventh. Davis began the inning with a ground rule double to put a runner in scoring position. Reaching third on a ground out by Hoeg, Colton Onstott (Dodge City CC) came off the bench to pinch hit. Onstott hit a dribbler back to the mound, Cole Gnetz mishandle the baseball and Davis scores to tie the ballgame.
But in the bottom of the eighth, the Chinooks would take the lead late as they scored two runs off of reliever Peter Castillo (Palm Beach State). The inning began with a walk to Riley and he was moved to second on a sac bunt by Dalporto. A single by Owen Miller (Illinois State) gave the Chinooks runners at first and third with one out. A suicide squeeze by James Bleming (Lehigh) pushed across the go-ahead run for the Chinooks as they took a 4-3 lead. The Chinooks would load the bases and Castillo would get called for a balk to bring in the fifth run. In the top of the ninth, the Bullfrogs were unable to muster another comeback.
Offensively, the Bullfrogs were led by Jonah Davis as the left-fielder picked up a couple of hits and scored on run in the game. Harrisen Egly went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four batters on his way to a no decision.
The Bullfrogs will welcome the Chinooks into Joannes Stadium tomorrow to complete the two game series. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05pm.
