May 27, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- Green Bay Bullfrogs defeated the La Crosse Loggers 9-3 at Joannes Stadium on May 27 to even their record to 1-1 in the 2015 season.
Bullfrogs' first baseman Ryan Donovan made a big impact on offense. He finished 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a two-run home run over the right-field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning.
"Right off the bat, I thought it was gone," Donovan said. "I was rounding first and I peeked up saw it go over the wall. It's nice to get the first one out of the way, especially the first win for us this year."
In a 3-1 hitter's count, Donovan said he got the pitch he wanted.
"I was working in practice with the coaches, trying to go the other way, but when I saw that inside, I turned on it," Donovan said.
Donovan's homer broke a 1-1 tie, and Green Bay led the rest of the way.
Mike Ellenbest picked up the win for the Bullfrogs as he pitched 6 1/3 innings and surrendered just one hit and struck out four batters. Green Bay used a combination of pitchers Sam Brunner and Ben Messenger to finish out the game as the Bullfrogs picked up their first win of the season.
Green Bay got on the scoreboard first when Donovan scored on Tyler Kozlowski's groundout in the second inning, but La Crosse tied the game in the third with an error that allowed a run to score.
Following Donovan's two-run blast, the Bullfrogs picked up a run in the fifth and sixth innings. Green Bay kept it going with some insurance runs with a four-run seventh to break the game open.
The Bullfrogs split their first series of the season and will play another two-game set against the St. Cloud Rox on May 28-29 at Joannes Stadium.
Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now. The Bullfrogs off-season hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information please visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
