Green Bay, Wis. - The Bullfrogs comeback falls short as they fall to the Mallards 8-5 in the final game of the season series. After falling behind by six runs in the first, the Bullfrogs cut the deficit to a run heading into the eighth inning. But the Mallards were able to hold on and earn the victory. The loss makes it three in a row as the Bullfrogs drop the season series against the Mallards six games to two.

Mallards picked up where they left off last night as they scored six runs in the first inning on six hits. Nico Hoerner (Stanford) began the game with a single and he was followed by a Matt McCann (Fairleigh Dickinson) single. After a sac bunt by Nelson Maldonado (Florida), Nate Palace (Valparaiso) hit a triple off the wall to bring home Hoerner and McCann. The Mallards would push across four more runs in the inning, two of them coming off a single by Jesse Medrano (Fresno State). Once the inning was over, the Mallards sent ten batters to the plate and forced Bullfrogs starting pitcher Jacob Padilla (Dubuque) from the ballgame.

In the top of the third, the Bullfrogs would strike for their first run of the ballgame. A single Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne) and an error by Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte) off the bat of Quincy Nieporte (Florida State) put two runners on the bases. Jonah Davis (UC-Berkeley) continued to drive in runs for the Bullfrogs as he scored Shoemaker on a RBI single to center field. The Bullfrogs would tack on another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Austin Clemons (Louisville) to score Matt Hoeg (Iowa Western CC).

Chris Botsoe (Louisville) would make it a one run ballgame in the top of the fifth. Davis reached base after getting hit by a breaking ball from pitcher Justin Watts (Northern Kentucky). A Parker Coss (UC-Irvine) flyout and a Laren Eustace (Indiana) walk brought Botsoe to the plate with two on and two outs. Botsoe sent a towering home run over the left field fence, his first of the season, to continue the comeback.

The Bullfrogs bullpen was fantastic tonight as they had to carry the load after starter Padilla was only able to go two-third innings. Logan Elliot (Mississippi State) came into he ballgame in the bottom of the first, he got the final out of the inning to stop the offensive onslaught. He would throw three straight scoreless innings before being replaced by Peter Castillo (Palm Beach State). Castillo continued the trend and threw two scoreless innings himself as the Mallards bats went all but silent.

Entering the bottom of the eighth, the Bullfrogs were trailing by a run. But Josh Stowers (Louisville) hit a two run shot to left field to push their lead to three late in the game off of relief pitcher Dominick Golubiweski (Madison College).

Bullfrogs will play an away-home double-header tomorrow against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Game one will begin at 12:05 pm from Athletic Park in Wausau. Game two will begin at 7:05 pm from Joannes Stadium.
