Bullfrog Pitching Dominates Prior to Postponement
May 30, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- After 12 1/2 innings, the Green Bay Bullfrogs and St. Cloud Rox still have no winner. The game was postponed due to field conditions. The game will be finished on July 16 as part of a doubleheader with St. Cloud as the home team.
After last night's game featured 25 runs and 34 runs, it was a battle between the pitchers on Friday night at Joannes Stadium. Bullfrogs' starting pitcher Nathan Disch pitched 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and did not allow an earned run.
In addition to Disch's performance on the mound, Sam Brunner threw six innings in relief, giving up two hits, no runs and struck out nine.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. St. Cloud right fielder Joe Tietjen reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch. The Rox scored again a few batters later with Liam Bedford's RBI single that scored Michael Strem as Disch exited.
Jeremy Graf entered the game for his third appearance in four games and got out of the inning with an unassisted double play to shortstop Matthew De La Rosa.
The Bullfrogs scored a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning. De La Rosa got aboard with a walk and came around to score on Billy Mullins' RBI double to deep center.
Graf pitched a scoreless seventh before the weather became an issue. Bullfrog players rolled out the tarp on the field for the game's first rain delay.
When play resumed, St. Cloud reliever Chris Parish threw four pitches and had trouble getting his footing on the wet mound, which set off another delay.
The Bullfrogs loaded the bases in the seventh and had two runners on in the eighth but did not score. With the bases loaded again in the ninth, Mullins hit a fly ball to centerfield, and Earl Vorpagel beat the throw home to tie the game.
Neither team was able to score by the time the game was postponed in the middle of the 13th, and the score remains 2-2.
The Bullfrogs will play outside of Green Bay for the first time this season as they have a two-game series against the Lakeshore Chinooks from May 30-31.
Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now. The Bullfrogs off-season hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information please visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
