Appleton Native Looks to Down His Former Club
May 30, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- Right-handed pitcher Ryan Radue makes his first start of the season under the lights tonight against the Lakeshore Chinooks. Although every summer debut is important to set the tone, it's even more relevant for Radue who played for Lakeshore last season.
When Ryan Radue won a championship with the Lakeshore Chinooks in August 2014 he was a major part of the success. Radue was primarily a bullpen threat and held opponents in the Northwoods League to just a .198 opposing batting average in 21 1/3 innings.
"It was a lot of fun," said Radue of his run to the Northwoods League title. "It just never felt like we were going to lose a game. We were clicking on all cylinders."
Radue is taking his championship success back closer to home in 2015. He also has some insight for his new Bullfrogs teammates on the remedy for summer league success.
"The biggest thing was we were an easy going team," said Radue of the 2014 Chinooks. "We never got down on ourselves at all. If someone had a bad at-bat or outing, there were five guys there to pick him up."
After becoming active just days after the opening game, Radue (Appleton/Fox Valley Lutheran H.S.) brings a local flavor to the Bullfrogs who also have another player from Appleton, RHP Nathan Disch on the roster. While at Fox Valley Lutheran H.S., Radue posted school record-breaking numbers. He captured school bests in innings pitched, strikeouts in a season, and wins in a season.
For this summer, it was important for Radue to pitch for Green Bay as he transitions to his red-shirt junior season in Storrs, CT.
"I wanted to be closer to home," said Radue. "My family will be able to come up a lot more and I never get to see them during the school year. So I will get to see them during this summer quite a bit."
Radue will be a key part of the Bullfrogs rotation especially early in the schedule. With a strong fastball and improved curve ball, Radue will continue to bolster a Bullfrogs rotation that will put out their fifth different starter in their first road game against Lakeshore.
Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now. The Bullfrogs off-season hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. For more information please visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
