Bulldogs Trio Selected in NHL Draft

The Hamilton Bulldogs had a trio of players selected early on Day 2 of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft as Artyom Grushnikov, Ryan Winterton & Chandler Romeo had their hard work and determination pay off as they heard their names called.

In the 2nd round, 48th overall, the Dallas Stars would select the first of the Bulldogs pair, taking defenseman Artyom Grushnikov. Out of the legendary CSKA Moscow/Red Army program, Grushnikov has impressed at every level including winning gold medals as an underage player for Russia at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, 2019 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup and 2019 World Junior A Challenge.

Grushnikov becomes the 2nd Hamilton Bulldog in franchise history to be selected with the 48th overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft following Jan Mysak's selection to Montreal in 2020.

With the expansion Seattle Kraken on the clock in the 3rd round, the NHL's newest franchise would select Bulldogs forward Ryan Winterton with the 67th overall selection. Originally chosen in the 1st round, 8th overall, by the Bulldogs in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft, Winterton has already built a tremendous resume. Representing Canada at both the U-17 & U-18 levels, including winning the Gold Medal with Team Canada at the 2021 U-18 World Hockey Championship, Winterton has displayed his immense potential on the world stage. As a rookie with the Bulldogs in the 2019-20 season, Winterton would record 12 goals & 11 assists for 23 points across 53 games, combining his tremendous shot and offensive potential with a 200-foot game matured well beyond his age all leading to being so highly thought of by NHL scouts.

Towering defenseman Chandler Romeo would mark the third Bulldog taken in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft when the Ottawa Senators called his name in the 7th round, 202nd overall. The 6'5" 205lbs defenseman was originally in the 3rd round, 49th overall in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft and has suited up with the Brantford Bandits, Brantford 99ers & Ottawa Jr. Senators while making his way to the Hamilton Bulldogs for the 2021-22 season, paving his road to the professional ranks.

With their selections in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Artyom Grushnikov, Ryan Winterton & Chandler Romeo become the 8th, 9th & 10th Hamilton Bulldogs selected to the NHL following; Mackenzie Entwistle (ARZ 3/69 2017), Matthew Strome (PHI 4/106 2017), Marian Studenic (NJ 5/143 2017), Reilly Webb (DET 6/164 2017), Brandon Saigeon (COL 5/140 2018), Arthur Kaliyev (LA 2/33 2019) & Jan Mysak (MTL 2/48 2020).
