Bulldogs to travel to Philadelphia and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will play two road games this week. Hamilton will travel to Philadelphia to battle the Phantoms (AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers) at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, February 2nd at Wachovia Spectrum. After the game, the Bulldogs will head to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to take on the Penguins (AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins) at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, February 3rd at Wachovia Arena at Casey Place.

Hamilton posted a 2-0-0-0 record in two home games at Copps Coliseum last week. The Bulldogs began the week with a 3-2 win over the San Antonio Rampage on Friday, January 26th, and then blanked the Manitoba Moose 3-0 on Saturday, January 27th.

With 56 points in 47 games this season, the Bulldogs currently sit in second place in the North Division standings, nine points behind the first-place Rochester Americans (65 points in 45 games), and two points ahead of the third-place Manitoba Moose (54 points in 48 games).

AHL STANDINGS

PLAYER NOTES:

- G Jaroslav Halak and RW Andrei Kostitsyn both played in their first AHL All-star games last night (Jan. 29th), helping PlanetUSA defeat the Canadian squad 7-6. Halak played the entire first period, posting 19 saves on 21 shots, while Kostitsyn was scoreless with three shots in the game

- Halak also broke the Bulldogs franchise single-season shutout record last week, recording his sixth shutout of the season on Saturday, January 27th with a 30-save, 3-0 win over the Manitoba Moose

- Kostitsyn also notched four points (1-3-4) and was named second star (Jan. 26th) and first star (Jan. 27th) in two games last week. He is currently on a three-game point streak (Jan. 20-27) with five points (2-3-5) in that span, and is fifth in the AHL with a plus-19 rating

- G Yann Danis has won three consecutive starts (Jan. 19-26), allowing only four goals on 78 shots in that span

- C Mikhail Grabovski has recorded two points in each of his last three games, good enough for a three-game point streak with six points (2-4-6) from Jan. 20-27

- RW Matt D'Agostini returned to the line-up on Friday, January 26th after missing 13 games due to injury and had three points (1-2-3) in two games last week

- All-Star winger Jonathan Filewich leads the team with 19 goals and won the Fastest Skater event at the 2007 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition

- The Penguins currently have four former Bulldogs on their roster: Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers, and forwards Marc-Antoine Pouliot, Jean-Francois Jacques and Dennis Bonvie. Former 'Dogs captain Alain Nasreddine, who has appeared in 19 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, is currently on recall to the Pittsburgh Penguins

There are 44 former Bulldogs who have participated in at least one game for NHL clubs this season. Over 60 percent of all former 'Dogs have played in at least one NHL game. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments from this past week. Eleven ex-'Dogs were involved in the deciding goal in six different games last week including:

- Montreal G Cristobal Huet (19-11-3) turned aside 10 third-period shots for the NHL Eastern All-Star team in a 12-9 loss (Jan. 24) vs. the NHL Western All-Star team

- Edmonton G Jussi Markkanen (4-3) stopped 32 shots vs. Los Angeles (Jan. 24) to record his fourth win of the season in a 4-3 contest

- Edmonton C Shawn Horcoff (9-23-32) had a goal, two assists and a +4 plus/minus rating vs. Los Angeles (Jan. 24) in a 4-3 win, and one assist vs. San Jose (Jan. 26) in a 5-1 loss

- Montreal C Tomas Plekanec (10-14-24) is on a current four-game point streak (3-2-5) including: one goal vs. Ottawa (Jan. 29) in a 3-1 win, and one goal vs. Toronto (Jan. 27) in a 4-1 loss

- Columbus LW Jason Chimera (9-13-22) had two helpers including one on the game-winning goal vs. Buffalo (Jan. 26) in a 3-2 win
