
Bulldogs Score Five to Defeat IceDogs

ST. CATHARINES, Ontario -The Hamilton Bulldogs (18-26-4-0) got 47 saves from Connor Hicks as they defeated the Niagara IceDogs (24-17-3-3) 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines. Matt Strome opened the scoring just 1:38 into the first period when he finished off a Niki Petti pass in front of the Niagara net.
Stome's goal, his 8th of the season, gives him as many goals as his oldest brother Ryan had in his OHL rookie season.
The Bulldogs opened up a two goal lead when Mitchell Mendonca scored his second in as many nights at 5:12. Mendonca attempted a pass to Michael Cramarossa but it deflected off a Niagara player and into the net.
Niagara pulled closer as Stephen Harper scored against his former team. He fired home a pass from Josh Ho-Sang at 4:16. Pavel Jenys also picked up an assist on the play.
Hamilton regained the two goal lead at 15:11 of the second period when Niki Petti made a pass over a diving defenceman and Trent Fox kept his concentration and tipped it into the net for his team leading 19th of the season.
In the third Niagara would again pull to within one as Tyler Boston fired a shot in from the hash marks at 7:23 of the final period.
Hamilton put the game away late in the third as Trent Fox scored his second of the game and 20th of the season at 18:18. Michael Cramarossa and Matt Strome were awarded the assists on the play.
Then before time expired Niki Petti fired a puck into the empty Niagara net to wrap up the scoring.
Hamilton is back at it Thursday night when they visit the Petes in Peterborough. The Bulldogs will return to the FirstOntario Centre on Saturday, February 6th to take on the Eastern Conference leading Kingston Frontenacs. Puck drop will be 7:00pm.
