Bulldogs lose to Rochester

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs had their four-game home winning streak snapped on Friday night as they lost 4-2 to the Rochester Americans at Copps Coliseum.

The Americans jumped out to an early lead at 3:45 of the first period when Nathan Paetsch beat screened Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis with a shot from the point.

Chris Thorburn gave Rochester a 2-0 lead with his tenth goal of the season at 3:20 of the second period. Michael Ryan and Nathan Paetsch recorded assists on the goal.

The Bulldogs cut the lead in half when Antti Miettinen scored on the power play to make the score 2-1. Miettinen finished off a nice passing play from Chris Higgins and Dan Jancevski at 12:28 of the second period.

The Amerks restored their two-goal lead at 17:26 of the second period courtesy of Jason Pominville's 21st goal of the campaign.

Tomas Plekanec scored the Bulldogs second power-play goal of the night at 2:42 of the third period. Plekanec took a pass from Trevor Daley and made no mistake, making the score 3-2.

Rochester added an insurance marker at 11:14 of the third period when Chris Taylor banked a shot in off of a Bulldogs defenceman in front of the night. The Bulldogs would not recover from their third two-goal deficit of the night.

Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis stopped 33 of 37 shots in the loss. Ryan Miller won his league leading 32nd game of the season by making 22 saves.

Hamilton scored twice on six power play opportunities. The Amerks had one goal on two opportunities with the man advantage.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night when the Manitoba Moose visit Copps Coliseum.
