Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Goaltender Yann Danis made 43 saves on 45 shots, as the Hamilton Bulldogs handed the Manitoba Moose only their seventh road loss of the season with a 4-2 win on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum.
With the win, the Bulldogs record improves to 24-23-6-5. The Bulldogs are undefeated (15-0-0-0) when they score four or more goals in a game.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring just 43 seconds into the game when Chris Higgins posted his 18th goal of the season. Antti Miettinen and Trevor Daley recorded assists on the goal.
With one second remaining in the first period, Hamilton took a 2-0 lead. Earning an offensive zone face-off with 2.5 seconds left, Hamilton pulled goaltender Yann Danis in favour of an extra attacker. Gavin Morgan won the face-off to Jean-Philippe Cote who beat Moose goaltender Alex Auld with a shot from the point for his first goal of the season.
Manitoba netminder Wade Flaherty replaced Auld for the start of the second period.
Chris Higgins gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead on the power play with his second goal of the night. Tomas Plekanec made a nice move and set up Higgins who buried a high shot past Flaherty at 10:16 of the second period.
Newly acquired forward Jason Jaffray got the Moose on the scoreboard at 6:30 of the third period, making the score 3-1. Jaffray, who was signed to a contract earlier today, scored his first goal as a member of the Manitoba Moose.
Manitoba pulled within a goal at the 9:53 mark of the third period on the power play when Lee Goren notched his 24th goal of the season from Tomas Mojzis and Jason King.
Steve Ott tallied an empty net goal with 37 seconds remaining in the game to seal the win for Hamilton.
Chris Higgins continued his hot streak with two goals and was named the game's first star. Higgins has 11 points (6g, 5a) in his last ten games.
