Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - It was a goaltender's game as the Hamilton Bulldogs fell to the Rochester Americans 3-1 in the 'Dogs' second game of a 3-in-3 weekend.
Hamilton netminder Robert Mayer and Rochester goalie David Leggio were both kept busy in the first period, facing 15 and 12 shots respectively. But with just 33 seconds left in the opening period, Mark Voakes beat Mayer to score his fifth of the season, making it 1-0 Amerks.
Rochester would add to its lead a mere 17 seconds into the second period on a goal by Marcus Foligno. The Bulldogs retaliated four minutes later when Garrett Stafford's pass found Philip DeSimone alone in front of the Amerks' net. DeSimone pushed the puck into the open net behind Leggio to snap a 12-game scoreless streak with his seventh of the season. Stafford also extended his point streak to 5 games on the play.
Rochester's 2-1 lead would stand until the end of the third period. The Bulldogs would test Leggio a total of 36 times in the game, the Amerks goaltender earning his first star award by making several crucial saves in the final 20 minutes. Mayer was similarly busy at the other end, facing a total of 30 shots. Foligno sealed the win for Rochester, scoring his second of the game in an empty net to give the Amerks a 3-1 victory over the 'Dogs.
