Bulldogs Eliminated by Griffins

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-1 on Sunday night in front of 3,179 fans at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs could only beat Jimmy Howard once on 23 shots as they were eliminated in Game 6 from the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Hamilton opened the scoring nine seconds into the game. J.T. Wyman raced down the right side boards before centering a pass to Greg Stewart in front of the net. Stewart one-timed the puck past Grand Rapids starting goaltender Jimmy Howard for his first goal of the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs.

While on a two-man advantage, the Griffins tied the game 1-1. Tom Galvin fired a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle. The puck bounced off the post and onto the stick of Darren Haydar. Haydar fired the puck over a sprawling Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis.

Grand Rapids took a 2-1 lead at 4:18 of the middle frame. Justin Abdelkader received the puck from Ville Leino while positioned in the high slot. Abdelkader fired a shot that beat Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis through the legs.

Cory Emmerton increased the Griffins lead at 13:45 of the final frame. Leino sent the puck to Emmerton, who had the puck bounce around on his stick before snapping a shot over the blocker of Denis. Ville Leino would add an empty-net marker to seal the victory for Grand Rapids and end Hamilton's season.
