Moose Clinch Series In Week 29

STARTING BACK AT ONE:

The Moose are 7-7 in Game 1 since joining the AHL. They are 5-2 in series where they have won Game 1, and 3-4 where they have lost Game 1. The Moose have won Game 1 against the Griffins both times they have faced off in the postseason, but are 1-1 in those series. The Moose have lost their last three Game 1s, most recently, a 3-2 overtime defeat to the Toronto Marlies in the 2009 North Division Semi-final. The last time they won Game 1 was a 1-0 win over Grand Rapids on AprIL 19, 2007 in the North Division Semi-Final. The Moose are 2-3 in Game 1 of a second-round series.

MAY DAY, MAY DAY:

The Moose have seen playoff success in April, putting up a 26-19 record, but have not enjoyed the same thrills in May, going 12-16. The Moose have won two of five series that have seen May action, clinching the North Division Semi-Final with a 4-1 over Grand Rapids on May 1, 2007, and knocking off Rochester in five games played from May 4 to 13, 2005.

LEADING THE PACK:

With eight points in six games against the Toronto Marlies, Jason Krog led the Moose in scoring, and is currently tied for third in playoff scoring with Grand Rapids' Justin Abdelkader. Krog led Manitoba's charge against Grand Rapids this season, notching five goals and seven points against the Griffins, topping the team in both categories. Krog has had success against Grand Rapids, scoring seven points against them in 2007-08 for Chicago.

The Manitoba Moose earned three-consecutive victories last week to clinch their North Division Semi-Finals series against the Toronto Marlies 4-2. By earning a 5-1 victory on Tuesday followed by a 5-2 win on Thursday, the Moose registered consecutive five-goal games for the first time in their playoff history. Manitoba's leading scorer Jason Krog sits tied for third in the league with eight points (6-2-8) while Moose goalie Cory Schneider continued stellar play from regular season with 1.98 GAA and a 0.925 save percentage.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009: Manitoba 5, Toronto 1

After dropping Game 3 to the Toronto Marlies on Sunday, the Manitoba Moose battled back for a 5-1 victory on Tuesday night to tie the series up at two. Mark Fistric, Maxime Fortunus, Jason Jaffray, Greg Rallo and Mark Cullen all scored goals for Manitoba while Cory Schneider had a 20 save performance.

Thursday, April 23, 2009: Manitoba 5, Toronto 2

Veterans Jason Jaffray and Jason Krog each scored a pair of goals while Guillaume Desbiens notched a single on Thursday night to put the Moose over the Marlies 5-2 in Game 5 at the Ricoh Coliseum. Manitoba took a 3-2 series edge over Toronto as goaltender Cory Schneider starred in impressive fashion by stopping 38 shots in his fifth consecutive start against the Marlies.

Saturday, April 25, 2009: Manitoba 4, Toronto 2

Four even-strength goals, stellar goaltending and physical play earned the Manitoba Moose a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Marlies to clinch their first series in the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs. Greg Rallo, Matt Pope, Raymond Sawada and Guillaume Desbiens all notched goals for Manitoba, while goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 13 shots in Game 6. The Moose will embark on their North Division Finals on Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd at the MTS Centre against the Grand Rapids Griffins .
