
Bulldogs Drop Season Opener in North Bay

HAMILTON, ONTARIO. A wild start to the season for the Bulldogs as they dropped a 7-5 decision in North Bay Friday night despite a 5-point performance from Brandon Saigeon.
The Bulldogs scored on their first shot of the game as Arthur Kaliyev (1) took a perfect pass from Saigeon at 3:59 to make it 1-0. However, the Battalion scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead by the mid-way point of the 2nd period. Saigeon (1) converted on the power-play at 12:36 as the period ended 4-2 for the home team.
Hamilton cut the lead to 4-3 at 10:13 of the 3rd as Brandon Saigeon (2) scored his second goal of the game only to see North Bay respond with two more to take a 6-3 lead with less than 4-minutes left in the 3rd. Hopes of a come-back weren't over as Nicolas Mattinen (1) and Arthur Kaliyev (2) scored 45-seconds apart to once again cut the Battalion lead down to one at 6-5 with 1:21 left. The Battalion secured the win with an empty net goal at 19:44 to make the final 7-5.
