Bulldogs Take Bite out of the Colts

The Barrie Colts would attempt a comeback late in third period scoring two quick goals, but wouldn't be enough as the Hamilton Bulldogs would skate to a 4-2 win Thursday night at the Barrie Molson Centre.
The top dog of the league from one year ago would prove their strength once again on this night as Hamilton would build a three goal lead through two periods and hang on haulting the Colts comeback.
The first of four meetings on the season. Last year the Colts controlled the season series but it was the Bulldogs prevailing in the end.
For most of the opening twenty minutes would show two strong teams, not giving either an inch of room. The Colts would have many opportunities in the dogs end but struggle to get shots through to the net.
Midway through the period, the Bulldogs would open up the scoring capitalizing on their first chance on the man advantage. Matthew Strome would find Mackenzie Entwistle from below the goal line to one time one between the pads of Zhukov. Hamilton would hold the 1-0 heading into the intermission.
At 9:14 of the second period, the Bulldogs would pad their lead, a soft clearing attempt would go straight to the Bulldogs defenseman Nicholas Mattinen. His blast from the blueline would find its weay through the maze of players to up by two.
Three minute's later; Hamilton's powerplay unit would strike once more with Arthur Kaliyev finishing off the passing to make the lead 3-0.
Barrie would finally break through with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. Luke Bignell would bang home the rebound at the side of the net to get the Colts on the board. Colts rookies Riley Piercey and Nathan Allensen would each pickup assists on the play.
Just two minutes later veteran defenseman Joey Keane would get the boys within one. On the powerplay, skating through three defenders, he'd snap his first of the season over the blocker of Donofrio. Ryan Suzuki and Matej Pekar would draw assists.
The Colts would pull Zhukov for the extra attacker late in this one, but the Dogs would seal the victory as Isaac Nurse would slide the puck into the empty cage for the 4-2 final.
Barrie will next be in action Thursday September 27th at home to take on the Sudbury Wolves.
