December 10, 2021 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (7-11-4) duplicated another great performance to shutout the Amarillo Wranglers for a second straight night and earn the sweep in front of a packed house at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
The Bugs and Wranglers had their chances in the opening period, but neither team could find the back of the net. Shreveport led in SOG, 9-7 after one.
Shreveport broke the ice at 5:17 of the 2nd period when Gunner Moore lofted a shot towards the net which found its way through for his second goal in as many games to give the Bugs a 1-0 lead and bring all the Teddy Bears onto the ice. Evan Mitchell earned the only assist on the game's first goal. The reigning champs added to their lead at 11:45 when Jake Mack tipped home his fourth goal in front to push the Bugs' lead to 2-0. Drake Morse and Tyler Behl earned the helpers on Mack's tally. Shreveport out-shot Amarillo, 13-5 in the middle frame.
Shreveport added on at 2:23 of the 3rd period when Johnny Hallard jolted in his second goal of the season from the right point to extend the lead to 3-0. Garrett Steele and Trenten Hyde earned the assists. The Bugs put the icing on the cake and scored on the PP as Davis Goukler ripped home his first tally of the season from the slot to seal up a 4-0 victory over Amarillo and complete the sweep.
Devon Bobak made 16 stops to earn his second straight shutout and third overall on the season.
The Bugs will visit El Paso, TX once again to take on the Rhinos for another two-game series at El Paso County Coliseum. Game 1 is next Friday night with puck drop scheduled for 8 p.m. CT. ¬â¹
