Jackalopes Bring on Chris Francis as Assistant Coach

ODESSA, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes have announced the hiring of Chris Francis as the team's new assistant coach. The 32-year-old comes to Odessa after serving as a youth hockey coach in Austin, TX.

Before going pro, Chris was drafted #168 overall by Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL). Chris played 411 games in the ECHL spanning eight years (115G, 163A). Francis served as a captain in 2016-17 while with the Quad City Mallards (ECHL). A native of Las Vegas, NV, Chris played four games in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons in 2010-11 (1G, 1A). He also played four seasons (279GP) in the WHL, all with the Portland Winter Hawks (66G, 123A). His playing career ended in 2019-20 after finishing the season with Saale Bulls Halle (Germany 3) where he registered 49 points (22G) in 34 games.

"Chris came highly recommended to me by friends that have worked closely with him in the past," said Head Coach Scott Deur. Scott went on to add, "He had an outstanding playing career and one that our players can look up to. I have full confidence in him coming in and being a huge contributor to my staff."

Chris had this to say about joining the Jackalopes, "Ever since I retired two years ago my dream was to get back to the higher leagues. This is a good stepping stone for me, and I am excited to work alongside Scott and learn from him. I am looking forward to getting involved in the community and helping this team have success."
