
Bugs Strike Late Against Brahmas to Earn Series Opening Win

The Shreveport Mudbugs (8-4-1) fought and clawed their way to a gritty 3-2 victory over their arch-rival in the Lone Star Brahmas in front of a packed crowd at the Nytex Sports Centre Friday night.
LSB got on the board early in the opening period on the PP at 5:46 when Charlie Masek tapped in his sixth goal of the season from the backdoor to give the Brahmas an early 1-0 edge. SHV responded at 17:00 as Chase Murray threw a shot into traffic which snuck into the net for his first tally of the year to even the score, 1-1. Alex Park and Brent Litchard earned the assists. Lone Star led in SOG, 11-6 after one.
The Bugs would grab their first lead of the game at 6:23 of the second on the PP as Hayden Nichol redirected home his eighth goal of the season in front of the net to give Shreveport a 2-1 lead. Wil Murphy and Brayden Cook picked up the assists on the special teams tally. Lone Star led in SOG, 16-10 after two.
The Brahmas would come back at tie it early in the third period as Anthony Cappello found the short side to shoot in his fourth to even the game up, 2-2 at 1:26. The game would stay tied 2-2 until late in the third as Captain Liam Fleet fired home his first goal of the year from the high slot on the PP to give SHV the lead back at 3-2. Hayden Nichol and Ryan Burke picked up the assists on the eventual GW tally.
Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau earned the win in net making 20 stops on the night.
The Bugs and Brahmas will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Nytex Sports Centre.
