
Bugs Ice the Bats 2-1 in OT

AUSTIN, TX -- Eighteen hours after the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Austin Ice Bats on home Ice the two teams faced off in Austin on Sunday afternoon. The Bugs fought hard, grinding it out for a 2-1 OT win.
There was no scoring in the first period with neither team able to capitalize, each two power play opportunities. Karlis Zirnis broke the scoreless tie fifty seconds into the second period. Zirnis took a lead pass from Brian Sutherland and slipped it past Tony Quesada for the goal.
Ray Smegal evened the game for Austin in the third period, jamming a rebound by John DeCaro.
The game progressed to overtime where the Mudbugs hardworking forecheck paid off. The puck jarred loose in front of the net where Forbes MacPherson jammed it in for the game-winning goal.
