Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage goaltenders proved to be a one-two punch against the Arizona Sundogs this weekend. Following Trevor Cunning's 30-save performance last night in Rocky Mountain's 8-4 victory, David Guerrera helped continue the success for the Rage with 33 saves and a 3-0 shutout tonight at the Broomfield Event Center. The effort marked the first shutout in Rage history.

The Rocky Mountain Rage improved to 10-24-4 (24 points) for fourth place in the northwest division. The Arizona Sundogs fell to 18-20-1 (37 points) for third place in the southwest division.

With 13:22 remaining in the first period, Arizona's Ryan Steeves thought he drew the first goal of the game after tipping the puck into the net in mid air. It was immediately called a high-stick and waived off. Rage center Matic Kralj instead took the honors at 18:36 earning his second goal of the weekend and seventh of the season. The Sundogs outshot the Rage 15-10 in the period, but Guerrera was solid in net stopping everything that Arizona threw at him.

In the second period, Rocky Mountain extended their lead 2-0. Winger Trevor Weisgerber faked a move and beat two Arizona defenders just outside the crease. He slid the puck around the left skate of Sundogs goaltender Kevin Couture and into the net at 4:08. Left winger Mark Wires and defenseman Craig Olynick were credited with assists on the play.

Both teams matched each other's play in the third period with neither team giving up an even strength goal. Rocky Mountain's Dominic Noel, with the help of Kyle Kos, added an empty net goal at in the final seconds (19:26) off a breakaway from center ice to seal the win. The Sundogs and Rage posted 33 shots on goal each. The Sundogs went 0-9 on the powerplay, while the Rage went 0-5.

The Rage returns to action on Feb. 1 when they host the Youngstown SteelHounds at the Broomfield Event Center. Fans can listen online at www.RockyMountainRage.com or over the radio live on AM Z560 with the pre-game show starting at 6:50 p.m.
