Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs hockey is finally back at the CenturyTel Center tonight at 7:05 pm. The Mudbugs will start off the 2008-09 Central Hockey League season against the rival Texas Brahmas tonight as they open their bid to regain possession of the CHL President's Cup Championship.

The rivalry that was reborn last year with an 11-game regular season series and a matchup in the '08 playoffs will resume as the two teams meet again to start the year. Although Texas has been moved out of Bossier-Shreveport's division to the Southern Conference this year, the teams will still have plenty of chances to get familiar with one another again with ten regular season meetings. The only team the 'Bugs will see more than the Brahmas is Mississippi, with 12 games against the RiverKings.

Although only seven Mudbugs remain from last year's top-seeded team that was swept out of the playoffs by the Brahmas, the home team will certainly have some retribution on its mind when it takes the ice in front of the raucous CenturyTel Center crowd for tonight's home opener. After a hard-fought regular-season series that saw the 'Bugs go 5-4-2 against Texas, the Brahmas had the last laugh with a four-game sweep of the Governors' Cup Champs in the Northern Conference Semifinals. Texas went on to within one win of a berth in the President's Cup Finals, losing to Colorado in Game 7. Some of the faces have changed, but the familiarity remains the same. Texas still has numerous former Mudbug players in its locker room, and many of the top players from both teams are back.

In addition to being CHL opening night, the game this evening is also the Mudbugs' annual "Scout Night" celebration. Join us in welcoming Boy Scouts from all over the Ark-La-Tex as the troops will be featured in tonight's events. The Mudbugs will recognize the Scout Troop that sold the most tickets to tonight's game and scouts will be selling popcorn on the concourse as a fundraiser throughout the evening.

Join us in kicking off the 12th season of Mudbugs hockey tonight at the CTC for opening night with the Mudbugs and Brahmas. Individual tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at 318-741-9700 or at the CTC box office. Season and group ticket packages can be purchased at the Mudbugs office inside CenturyTel Center or by calling 318-752-BUGS.
